About Me

Minister | Professor | Pastor | Author | Speaker

I grew up in an active Christian home in western Canada in the cities of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and North Delta, British Columbia. My father was a pastor and a director of missions and our family was very involved in church planting as well as in other ministries. After finishing high school, I had the opportunity to attend university in Texas, where I completed a B.B.S. degree in History and Criminal Justice. I had planned to go to law school in Canada; however, after sensing a call to ministry, I stayed in Texas and completed a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages and a Ph.D. at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

I met my wife, Dana, while completing my studies in Texas. We were blessed with three children before moving to Calgary, Alberta, to help establish a ministry in Canada. While in Alberta, I also taught at the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary in Cochrane.

After living in Alberta for about four years, health issues with my oldest daughter caused our family to move to a warmer climate, eventually settling in Texas. We have spent the last seventeen years in Texas, where my wife has worked in the public school system as a language arts teacher and dyslexia specialist. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education at ETBU, oversees the mentoring initiative, and supports college students with disabilities.

Our oldest daughter, Emily, is a geologist in Colorado. Our son, Douglas, is in medical school at Arkansas State University and plans to be a pediatrician and work with children in impoverished areas. Our youngest daughter, Anne, is a kindergarten teacher in Dallas.

During my time teaching at DBU and ETBU, I have been able to get involved in the community and with local churches. I have helped with several outdoor fellowships and men’s ministries involving fishing, archery, and boating. In addition, I volunteered as an assistant coach in the local soccer association and joined a local hockey league. In addition, I have served as Interim Pastor at three churches and on the board for two international evangelical ministries.  As a family, we enjoy camping, fishing, kayaking, and hiking as much as possible while living in Texas.

Our family is very committed to missions and sharing the gospel. In recent years, my involvement with Evangelism Explosion has provided opportunities to travel and train people to share the gospel. My wife and children also have a deep desire for missions and actively engage in sharing the Good News. They also serve in various ministries, from homeless shelters to hospital and nursing home programs.

My wife and I have been married for 30 years and count our time together as a blessing. We have faced significant health challenges, international moves, challenging ministries, and raising children. We continue to face each day with anticipation as we follow God together as a couple committed to Christ and to each other.
